The Football World Cup happens only once every four years, but it’s the greatest sporting event on earth – and we have 16 reasons why it's so awesome. No matter if you're rooting for Brazil or Germany, you can't help but get caught up in the energy and excitement of this international competition. Here are 16 reasons why we can't wait to see what Russia 2018 has in store!
1) There's Non-Stop Action
The football world cup, a global event that only happens every four years, is the best event on earth. It's a time for countries to come together and root for their teams. There are games happening all day long for weeks and no matter who you cheer for, there will be at least one game going on during any given time slot. For me, it's been an opportunity to make friends from around the world and have discussions with people from different cultures about football. One of my favorite things about watching games live in person (as opposed to on TV) is how vibrant it feels-you can feel the energy in the stadium when your team scores!
2) The Games are Quick
Football games are often short, lasting from 45 minutes to two hours. The game begins with a kickoff, and a player from each team tries to get the ball into their opponent's goal. A goal is scored when a player kicks or throws the ball past an opponent's goalkeeper and into their net. If both teams have equal points after 90 minutes of play, they can end up in a tie-breaker - where two five-minute periods of extra time are played until one team scores more goals than the other.
The football world cup is really fun because it only takes four weeks and you can watch 16 games in that time period! I like watching all of the different players' techniques as well as which countries play best together!
3) There are so many Teams
The FIFA World Cup is an amazing event, not just because of the competition, but also because of all the different teams that come together to play. There are 32 teams in total, and they all have their own unique story. Some are still relatively new and young, while others have been around for decades; some were once a powerhouse team but now they've fallen into mediocrity while other teams go from strength to strength every year. Some teams are simply happy to be there, while others have won it all and want nothing more than to repeat history.

Every game counts. That's why it's always exciting to see who will win. Plus, it's great for people of all ages to get together and have a good time. Whether you're watching at home or out at the pub, there are always plenty of reasons to celebrate. And if you don't like football? Well, then maybe you can cheer on your country as they compete in other events, like swimming or table tennis! The FIFA World Cup is coming up again next year and I know I'm ready to watch my favorite sport with friends and family again.
5) The Goals are Always Amazing
The goals are always amazing. I remember in 2014, when Robin Van Persie scored this magnificent goal against Spain to give Holland a 1-0 lead. It was one of those jaw-dropping moments that made me feel like I was watching it for the first time--even though I had seen it countless times before. Other highlights from this year's FIFA World Cup include a James Rodriguez bicycle kick against Uruguay, Luis Suarez's skillful header against England, and Lionel Messi's powerful penalty kick against Nigeria. And let's not forget about Sergio Aguero's last minute goal to send Argentina through to the knockout stages!
6) The Players are Super Talented
Football players are what make this sport amazing. They have to be talented and skilled to keep up with the game, but they also have to stay in shape because football is a fast-paced sport that requires a lot of running. The world cup has many of these amazing players from all over the world, but there are some who stand out because their talent is unmatched by anyone else. Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi are two well-known football players who have played for many years and will soon play in this year's world cup as well. I'm so excited to see them play!

7) The Fans are Passionate
Whether you're a football fan or not, it's hard to ignore this event. It's one of those events that people plan their summer around and even if you can't attend in person, it's one of those events that everyone just has to know what's going on with (even for those who don't care about soccer). As someone who doesn't really care about football, I still find myself checking the scores and looking at highlights from time to time. I'm not sure what it is about this event but there are so many things that make this event so exciting. The passion that fans have for their teams never stops amazes me and I think no matter where you go in the world, everyone at least knows who Lionel Messi is.
8) There's so much History
The FIFA World Cup is a true international event. There has been one played every four years since 1930 with the exception of 1942 and 1946, when there was no tournament due to WWII. Uruguay, the first to ever win two World Cups, claimed the first title for this tournament. Eight nations to date have won it Uruguay (twice), Italy (four times), England (once), Brazil (five times), Argentina (twice), Germany (once) and France (once). There were 16 countries, which played at least one semi-final game in the aforementioned tournaments.

Every year, there are surprises. The 2014 final was a classic, with Germany beating Argentina 1-0 after extra time thanks to a goal from Mario Gotze. In 2010, Spain won for their first time ever when they beat Netherlands 1-0 in the final thanks to Andres Iniesta's goal. This year, however, has been different-I'm not just rooting for America to win it all, but for every country taking part in this great event. The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) hosts an international football tournament every four years called the FIFA World Cup. The games start on June 12th, 2014 and end with a final game on July 13th at 11:00 PM ET. It was filled with drama, goals, and excitement from start to finish.
